Death Takes a Holiday

Custom made brides for immortal men by the 3 Fates.

Date of Review:  August 4, 2007
E-book, multiformat, no illustrations

Ever wonder what the three Fates from greek mythology are doing running the command center for the Grim Reaper?  Even better, if they could, and they were running it, how would they reward him for his excellent job?  Why just cause the right two people to have a baby girl.

Lost in the plot?   You won't be, if you read Death Takes a Holiday.

Synopsis:

Rianna is a healthy young nubile female human nurse, who, just happens to be able to see the immortal Death when he is busy with his job.  Neither one understands why she has this capability.

Demetrius, a fallen angel, under the tutelage of Lucifer, has it all figured out.  He has his mind set on a goal of abducting Rianna ... right out from Thantos's amorous arms before Thantos' thick skull can figure out he's supposed to have a new wife.

The ensueing game of capture the Rianna back and forth like a battle flag and college prank war between the two immortals begins to take on a serious tone with realms of reality at stake.

The conclusion is straight forward from there, and enjoyable to all who love comedies instead of tragedies.

Impression:

Readers moving from the teen fantasy genre of Piers Anthony into a more adult realm will adore this book.  Stepping mentally into this book is akin to stepping back into the books on Death, the three fates, and Xanth.

Where Piers Anthony targeted the teen and older readers, Imari Jade has crafted a wonderful tale appealing to the young adult, where love and sexuality are being discovered and the reader along with the characters live forever in happily ever after.

For the rest of us, it is a return to an age of early adulthood, almost magical, before contracts, deals, and double crosses are all intertwined with both love and sex. Imari Jade crafts the combination of single minded love and sex as only a master author can.  As long as the reader's expectations are not those of Lord or the Rings or even a Monarch of the Glen, this book will entertain.

This book is straight forward, an even approach with a single plot line and theme.  If there is any distraction from this read, it is technical, since several plot twists while adhering to a single theme are somewhat more enjoyable.

Death Takes a Holiday is a relaxing and fun full afternoon's read.
