Plymouth Colony II

The Perils of Teris

Date of Review:  23, April 2008
Romantic Science Fiction:  Multi-format E-Book

During the last days of Earth, Teris and her brother are picked to take the long journey to a new home.  No one knows of the dangers ahead or how many will survive. Its all a matter of fate.

Synopsis:

Young love blossoms in the new camps, including Teris who finds the camp controller irrestiable. Kovar in turn finds Teris also irresistable, no matter what the ruling from the government.  Naturally they gravitate to each other.

Kovar locates Teris's brother, Eric.  Slowly and inexoribly, Eric becomes leader of the young Earth born men; just as Kovar leads the Kelkani.  Together they set out to establish a new and welcome enterprise allowing both people to flourish.

But not everyone is happy with this, Sirdir Dare feels any woman alive deserves to be his sexual slave.  The human females are no exception.  Its up to Kovar and Eric to find the right way to put Sirdir Dare and his family in their proper place.

Impression:

Shay Wells has done remarkably well with this, her first novel.  She has managed to mix together a fair number of sub-genre's and to make this unusal mix work well for her.

She has taken her magical pen and woven together elements of young lustful romance into the frame work of the classical space opera complete with villianous bug eyed monsters. She then sprinkled in chips of barbed social comments akin to satire or space De'Camp, some more chips of the Perils of Pauline,  and set the whole story on fire with a pace of a current adventure yarn.

Make no mistake about it, this was a very ambitious undertaking and the periods of dead reading should be noted only in their near total abscense from this story.  We should all be looking forward to new books from this author.

For a great afternoon romp, read Plymouth Colony II.
